Why I am building LIGHTNET around support

You can understand a lot about yourself and still agree to things you do not want. Know you need rest and keep pushing yourself. Read about how to talk to the people close to you, then say exactly the words you will regret when a conversation gets difficult.

A book, a practice or a good conversation can make things clearer. But the next day, we are living with the same circumstances. When it matters, it can be hard to remember the advice, find the courage to do something differently or work out whether it even fits.

I want to help at the moment someone tries to put what they have understood into practice and runs into difficulties.

When another explanation is not enough

Advice can be sensible and still not help in a particular situation. "Set boundaries" sounds straightforward until you are facing someone you are afraid of falling out with. "Let yourself rest" is hard to follow when other people depend on you. Even a familiar practice can feel beyond you on a day when you have almost no energy.

At those moments, you need a chance to explain what you are afraid of, what you are unsure about and why things did not work out. A question from someone listening, or a different explanation, can help you understand your own situation better.

Sometimes that leaves you ready to act. Sometimes you realize the goal is not really yours, you have taken on too much or you need to rest first. I want support to leave room for those discoveries.

Support matters after the conversation too

Suppose someone is preparing to tell a loved one about something that has been troubling them for a long time. They need to work out what they want, find the words and understand what they feel ready for. That is already work, even if the conversation does not happen today.

Afterwards, entirely different questions may come up. The other person reacted unexpectedly. They managed to say what mattered but still feel guilty. Or things went more calmly than expected, and they want to understand what helped.

You want to pick up where you left off without explaining it all again: who this person is, why the relationship matters and what was difficult before.

That is why I am bringing conversation, a journal and personal memory together in LIGHTNET. We are developing a way for the channel to remember the story someone has shared and check back about something they planned to try. They can discuss what happened, say the issue is already resolved or leave it for later. There is no need to report back on a completed assignment.

We turn to people for help

There are people whose perspective we trust: psychologists, coaches, mentors and people who develop practices. We value their experience and the way they treat people. We want to keep working with their approach even when we cannot turn to them personally.

I want to help people who know how to help others make their approach more accessible. In an AI channel, the author contributes their knowledge, practices and way of communicating, and people work with them in the context of their own lives. The conversation is with a digital mind configured by the author; these are not personal messages from the author.

People live different lives, so I am bringing different authors and methods together in LIGHTNET. I want people to be able to find help that suits them, rather than trying to make their lives fit one piece of universal advice.

What matters to me is how people live afterwards

I went through a crisis myself that changed how much importance I placed on how I felt day to day. The days pass, and how you live them matters: whether you have energy, whether you can be there for the people close to you, whether you know what you hold dear.

I want support to help people find their own answers and try living by them: notice what they want, make decisions and care for themselves and others. That includes disagreeing with an explanation and declining a practice that does not suit them.

If someone feels worse after a practice, they need to be able to say so and get different help. I do not want their trust in a method to make them doubt their own experience and keep doing something that harms them.

This is what I am building LIGHTNET for: a network of people who want to help others, and technology that can help them reach more people while tailoring their support to each person’s life.

If you help people and this idea resonates with you, write to me. Tell me about your approach and the people you work with. Let's discuss what your channel could look like.
